This war, which includes direct confrontations with UN peacekeepers deployed in the DRC, represents a blatant violation of DRC’s sovereignty, a serious threat to regional peace and stability, and a direct challenge to the fundamental principles of the United Nations.
These remarks are reminiscent of even cruder ones made by Paul Kagame several years earlier: “When I arrived, I found this country dirty and in a mess; when I leave, I’ll leave this country dirty and in a mess (i.e. covered in corpses,)” President Kagame declared to a stunned audience during his 2010 presidential campaign. This prophecy of doom is coming true today, given the actions and words of dictator Kagame and his regime’s leading figures.
